War Eagle everyone!!
It is getting close to football season and I am sure you are all excited about the prospects of returning to The Plains for lots of grillin’ and gridiron. Nothing rejuvenates the soul like a football Saturday. I look forward the adrenaline rush of Tiger Walk and the rush of pride when Nova flies over the stadium and strikes the center of the field with authority. The precise formation of the Auburn Band when they enter the stadium and form the human chutes for our football team to enter the arena are a climactic event with a huge crescendo as the pump up video blows up the stadium. Dry ice creates a fog from the bottom of the stadium as the Saturday Warriors make their appearance at the entrance. The team rushes the field and the decibel level of the cheers measure on the Richter scale. I think you get the picture. It is time for our favorite season of the year.
To ramp up for the year, your West Ga. Auburn Club sponsored our 4th annual club picnic at Blanton Creek Park on Lake Harding. It was a fun event for the brave souls who bared the 100 degree heat. We had approximately 50 people come together at the lake to enjoy fellowship, food and fun. A giant, inflatable slide with a water pool provided both fun and heat relief for the most of the children in attendance and the local band “Both Sides of the Hill” provided live music for everyone to sing along. Aubie made an appearance and jammed with the band, played with the kids (and adults), and took a trip down the inflatable water slide. The highlight of the day was the introduction and send off of the Auburn freshmen class from our 3 county area. We also introduced Ben Key and Kristin Oliver, our two Charles Hudson Scholarship recipients for 2010-11. All total, 27 kids from our area are headed to the plains this fall as freshmen. Good luck and happy trails to you all as you begin the journey through college.
